Children's World
"Children's World" opened in 1957 in the center of Moscow, and for many years was the largest children's magazine of the USSR. The Children's World had everything. Of course, compared with today's assortment of shops in the children's department store looks very poor, but back then, the assortment had all you'd ever wish for. Nowadays, the building has been reopened and renovated. It consists out of stores and boutiques purely for kids. The stores are very big usually taking up more than one floor full of toys for sale among the huge replicas and statues (such as lego sculptures) all around. The mall also has plenty of cafes for children as well as clubs with activities, expositions and galleries all dedicated for children.
Some tourists sometimes come to Detsky Mir simply to see the legendary clock. The clock mechanism weighs 4.5 tons and consists of 5000 parts made of steel, aluminum, titanium and coated with gold. The current clock mechanism reaches a size of 6 to 7 meters and consists of 21 gears, a 4-meter-balance escapement wheel and 13-meter pendulum diameter of 3 meters. According to the manufacturer - it is the largest mechanical clock in the world. This clock is among the five leading mechanical clocks such as Big Ben, the Kremlin chimes, clock on the Prague Tower and clock in Ganzhou. |
