The State Historical and Cultural Museum-Preserve owns over 60 thousand historical, cultural, and artistic monuments. However, only 3 and a half thousand items are exhibited at the museum's permanent displays. The overall chronological frames are rather wide - from the late 3rd millennium B.C. to nowadays. The main part of the museum funds belongs to the period of Russian Middle Ages and Modern history. The Moscow Kremlin Museums are unique when it comes to the collections as they all come from a long history of their origin. For instance, "Russian State Regalia" is a collection that is based on values that had been preserved for centuries in the treasury of Moscow Great Princes and Tsars in the Kremlin such as gifts from foreign rulers, ambassadors, nobleman and purchases in Russia and abroad form the sources for filling the Tsars' treasuries. It is considered to be the most valuable one as it is unique and has no analogy in other museums of Russia.
