Sokolniki Park
"Sokolniki Park is a unique place. The park is known to be the oldest in Moscow and one of the largest in Europe. Several centuries ago Sokolniki was a tsar hunting ground and later the park was turned into a public place. But until recently the park was not paid due regard it clearly deserves for its great history." (Sokolniki, 2017).
Sokolniki is a unique park, nature and national culture complex, a piece of garden and park art. As before, it is property of Moscow. Park layout is very convenient for visitors: Main Entrance alley leads to the Big Ring which radiates eight alleys traversed by a cross alley. So nine sectors are formed featuring various pavilions and stages. Each sector is planted with trees of one species. Today the first and third alleys are planted with birches, the forth with lime-trees and maples, the second with lime-trees, the fifth with ash-trees, the sixth with red oaks, and the May Alley with larches. Sokolniki Park also has plenty of activities for people of all age however even without the activities, a simple walk in the park along with your family is a very pleasing experience. Or, you could take your family on an excursion called ‘Walk in Sokolniki’. "The excursion route goes along the most interesting places related to historical and cultural events that fill the park’s history. During the excursion guests will hear stories about various events connected to the park: about falcon hunt and the legend of Shiryai falcon, about May festivities at the time of Peter I and coronation of Alexander III, about the War of 1812 and famous tea parties. Visitors will see the historic places and learn about modern park structures." (Sokolniki, 2017). (There are many more activities for the whole family and you can check them all out by following the links below this article.) You can always find some attractions at the park. In summer, they usually set attractions, carousels, mini roller coasters and more, meanwhile in winter they usually sculpt glass houses and slides making the experience fun for everybody. |
