Café Pushkin
Considered by many to be the best restaurant in Moscow, the Pushkin's reputation is something akin to The Ivy in London. It has a sophisticated cafe on the first floor that's open 24 hours, but it's the restaurant on the so-called 'library' level, that is the place to see and be-seen in as the library is very much extensive consisting of more than three thousand volumes. The books range from the C18th to the early C20th. Books can be found in different languages written by some of the most known classic literature writers and poets.
"The idea was that the menu at Café Pushkin would present dishes from Pushkin’s own times, both Russian and French. In other words, it was not an easy task – to take a historic recipe and adapt it to modern times. Preparing the menu took no less than a year of culinary experiments and detailed research, combing through hundreds of historic recipes." (Café Pushkin, 2016). This aristocratic restaurant is very famous and popular amongst local business men and passing tourists. Diplomats, bankers and Moscow’s rich and famous now frequent it, but it used to be known as the city's only upper class restaurant where you could eat European standard food and talk freely without being disturbed by the roaming ears of KGB men. Café Pushkin, is a breathtaking destination and although the prices are quite high, you can always come for a small dessert or a coffee just to see the wonders that they keep in the restaurant. |
